Daily Social Emotional Check-In

Daily Social Emotional Check In - As an educator, it is essential to prioritize the overall well-being of your students before beginning any curricular instruction. Checking in with your students about their wellness, emotions, and moods not only shows that you care about them as individuals but also sets a positive tone for the rest of the class.

When students are not feeling well or are struggling emotionally, it can be difficult for them to engage in learning activities. By taking the time to address these concerns, you can create a safe and supportive environment where students feel comfortable expressing themselves and seeking the help they need. This not only benefits the students' academic performance but also promotes their overall mental and emotional health.

Thus, creating a classroom where students feel comfortable expressing their thoughts, ideas, and emotions without fear of judgement or ridicule. The educator instills to encourage open communication and foster a sense of trust and respect among the students in the room. These check in's can be completed through various mediums, I would be thrilled to share some of the ways I purposefully used technology to get an understanding of the social emotional needs of my individual students each day!

Classroom Brain Breaks

A brain break is a short, usually physically active movement that is designed to give students a mental break from academic tasks and help them recharge their focus and attention. Brain breaks are often used in the classroom to help students maintain their engagement and energy levels during long periods of learning.

Research has shown that intentional movement can be beneficial for both students and teachers. Regular movement breaks throughout the day can enhance student focus, reduce stress, increase wellness, and improve cognitive functioning . For teachers, brain breaks can also be an opportunity to create a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment, while building stronger connections with their students.

Boom-Snap-Clap

Boom-Snap-Clap is a fun game that can be played with a partner. To get started, find a space in the room and place an object, like a pen, on the ground. Sit cross-legged facing your partner with equal separation between the two of you. The teacher (or game leader) will call out an action, like "boom", "snap," or "clap," and all students must perform the action called out. The game continues with different actions until the teacher calls out "Grab!." At this point, it becomes a race between the two partners to grab the object that is between them on the ground. The first one to grab it wins! This game can be played with any number of pairs, and it's a great way to get students up and moving while also improving their reflexes
and coordination.
